Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] amberdreams:

1. Go to page 7 (or 77) of your current WIP.
2. Go to line 7
3. Copy down the next 7 lines – sentences or paragraphs – and post them as they’re written.

I think I'll do both...
... for the GG/SGA fic )

None of the other WIPs are far enough along to qualify, so. :D
I think, btw, that contrary to poll results, I might go ahead and post this one next before a certain point in the first chapter can be Jossed. But I'll probably post a run-off poll for #100, especially since I've had a Crossed Swords bunny chew its way into the hutch (Gil, Agatha, and Tarvek stumble through a rift into the tunnels just as Hogan gets the order to evacuate Stalag 13; also featuring Papa Schultzie at his finest). And then the Baby story and "Evan the Great" will most likely be Nos. 101 and 102 in some order.

Time once again for that old "post a bit from your WIPs" meme, which I'm going to expand a little with short summaries where appropriate:

WIP Hot Stove Report )

There are a few other bunnies in the hutch, mostly "Changing Channels" crossovers in the When Is A Ghost Not A Ghost? series, but they're very much on hold. There might also be a few more timestamps to "De Profundis," but I'm not currently planning on it. The Crossed Swords multiverse is pretty open-ended, and I'm not planning to give a hard and fast end to the Tok'ra Apocalypse 'verse, but I don't have a lot of ideas for either AU.

Now, the reason I'm posting this list: I currently have 97 stories/collections up on FF.n, and I'm trying to decide what to post when so that #100 will be properly momentous. Note that this doesn't necessarily mean I'll *write* them in any particular order! But I am curious as to what y'all would like to see first. I'm planning not to do [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema again and may be dropping out of [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang, so it's not like I'll have deadlines, although my fourteenth (!) anniversary of posting there will be Feb. 6.

So, since apparently anyone can post a poll these days, here goes:

Fic news

I've decided to shelve "Crusaders 4" and Dinéchesters "Gods and Little Fishes" and declare those AUs finished. Those stories have run out of steam, I think, and there really weren't any loose ends that needed to be tied up in sequels. ("Gods and Little Fishes" was going to involve the guys going with Gabriel and Talking God to deal with Metatron, and "Crusaders 4"--or 4-6 or 4-8, let's be honest--would have traced the Winchesters' involvement with the Men of Letters, from Denu's grandsons founding the society with Albertus Magnus through the English Reformation, the Letters' decision to decamp for Kansas, and Henry's murder by Abaddon to Sam and Jess becoming lay Dominicans and restarting the Letters with Gabriel's help.) There's always a chance I'll come back to them, of course, but for now... I think I'm done. Musie's needed elsewhere.

The Naval War College has just e-published Admiral Nimitz's Command Summary of the war in the Pacific! Not only is it a great historical source in and of itself, but I imagine it'd be a great help to anyone wanting to write fic set in the Pacific Theater (Black Sheep Squadron, McHale's Navy, etc., or WWII AUs for other fandoms).

Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils are spiffy. Think I'm going to want some actual practice with them before I use them on anything, and I probably won't use them for every calligraphy piece; but they look nice, and they should give me better control in putting the color where I want it (and keeping it there) as well as more confidence in mixing colors than I've had with paints lately.

In other news: Aside from co-authored pieces, I'm probably going to need to focus on original fic after New Year's. So I'm working on finishing "Five Times Azazel's Plan Couldn't Work" now and trying to get unstuck (again) on "Stole Soul Picnic" so I can finish at least this chapter that's in progress. Muses being the fickle things that they are, I don't want to state categorically that I won't be writing fic at all until the original stuff is done, and I do have a Big Bang that will be going up in March. I just thought I should let y'all know to... expect fic when you see it.
(I need to get my website updated, too. Ai.)

Hi.
Sorry I've been so quiet lately--lots going on IRL. Also swotting away at my story for [livejournal.com profile] spn_gen_bigbang and other writing projects; guess I owe y'all a fic roundup soonish, too. But my big fandom news at the moment is that my Deaf!Dean 'verse has been nominated at [livejournal.com profile] wicked_awards (fair warning, you might need images blocked if you look around there much and are as much of a prude as I am--quite a few of the banners are slash manips >.o) and "Gwaith i Innas Lain: Quenta Ando Rauco" is nominated for the MPTT Tree and Flower Awards! No Rest for the Wicked is juried, but Tree and Flower is by popular vote, and there are loads of other good stories that have also been nominated. So if you're in the LOTR fandom, go read and vote!
Also, congrats to [livejournal.com profile] shirebound, [livejournal.com profile] dreamflower02, [livejournal.com profile] antane, [livejournal.com profile] surgicalsteel, [livejournal.com profile] lindahoyland, and all my other fellow nominees!

RL has been absolutely bonkers this month. I've got other major projects either on my schedule currently or promised in the near future, plus original fic to wrangle and finish. And "Stole Soul Picnic" is, in a word, stalled.
So I'm dropping out of [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang. Plan B for "Stole Soul Picnic" is posting it as a WIP, and I'll probably start that either next week or after Easter, in the hope that comments will help me get unstuck. A couple of other fic projects may also get pushed, though I'll have to see how I'm feeling and what my schedule looks like next month. Right now I'm still planning to write the next SPN/M:I story for [livejournal.com profile] spn_gen_bigbang, though.
And that's what's new with me. *waves and passes out*

Welp, February snuck up on me, and I need to figure out for sure what I'm doing for [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang. Soooo....

Progress!

First of all, congrats to those of my friends who graduated this weekend! I hope you're able to take the time to just *relax* through the holidays. :)

I've made some progress on the WIP stack! The Tommy and Tuppence piece, Beresford & Winchester, Inc., and the Deaf!Dean piece, Silence Is Golden, are now posted for your reading pleasure. :) The next highest vote-getter was the Tok'ra Apocalypse sequel, which will be much longer and therefore much slower to finish--but if I can come up with a title, I might post each chapter as it's finished in the hope that reviews will help unstick the muse. We'll see.

Going to see The Hobbit tomorrow. *bounce* :D

Winner?

Well, you all are no help. :D
All of these WIPs will eventually get finished, I'm sure, unless the muse totally deserts me, and I'll probably tackle the possibles at some point as well. I'm starting with one of the "Changing Channels" crossovers because it's semi-seasonal, but then I'll do my best to prod Musie into letting me finish the Deaf!Dean story. Tok'ra Apocalypse might have to wait for [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang and the SPN/M:I story for [livejournal.com profile] spn_gen_bigbang, but I'll see how things go after the first of the year. Ditto the LOTR AU--Dreamflower, are we having [livejournal.com profile] lotrgficbigbang next year? As for the mashup... well, as En knows, I've used the term "epic" advisedly. No promises on speed there, especially since it's been in the works off and on for a year or two.

I owe y'all a round-up, too, don't I? Here:
Dinéchesters: "The Dark Wind" is a series of gapfillers for When the Badger Grows Horns. Bi'ee' Łigai (Woman in White) and Nihighan (Our Home) are already posted; the other two stories in the arc are off to beta.
Make It Right, another collaboration with [livejournal.com profile] jennytork, which goes AU from "In My Time of Dying" thanks to Gabriel.
Magic Carpet Ride, which is a sequel to Ring the Freedom Bell--SPN/M:I vs. Illinois Nazis. Yes, really.
And for [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time, Not This Time, which is likely to be the only canon-compliant SPN Season 8 fic I write until quite a lot of things get fixed. Probably going to be Jossed, but I don't quite care. :D

Annnd that's all for tonight, I think. Wonder how far I can get on this crossover before it gets too terribly much later....

Since I currently have the ability (thanks, Lisa!!), I thought I'd post a poll to solicit y'all's opinions on how to put a further dent in my stack of WIPs and the plotbunny hutch. These aren't *all* of the options I'm looking at, but I suspect I won't be able to do too much with LOTR or SGA until I get several more of these off my desk. You are, of course, welcome to natter at me further in the comments!

[Poll #1883721]

ETA: I think I'll leave this open until I get Dinéchesters finished or Monday-ish, whichever is later. ;)
ramblin_rosie: (Default)
I are a tired taquito, though not from partying too hard. :D Work's just been keeping me crazy busy and/or up all hours. But many thanks for all the birthday wishes and sweet surprises! It's been a good day, all told. :) I'm not sure if I'll be able to respond individually, but I have read and smiled at everything I've gotten. Wish I had a mathom ready to post, but I don't quite--yet. What I will have, as soon as I can get them finished and betaed, are the last two stories in the Dinéchesters "The Dark Wind" arc! And they are long and plotty and *should* tie up all the loose ends. ;) I think that will be it for that 'verse, though I never say never where sequels are concerned if it's an AU I like.
Speaking of which, since I'm not posting those for a challenge, would those of you who read on LJ prefer that I post all at once or that I post a chapter a day, the way I do on FF.n?
Next year I'll be focusing more on original fic, but don't think I'm giving up on fanfic. Oh, no. I've still got stories to finish in at least four other AUs, including that Tok'ra Apocalypse sequel that stalled out on me, plus two Big Bangs that I'll be posting after the first of the year and an A-Team crossover that I started for an [livejournal.com profile] spn_bigpretzel comment-fic meme but took off on an angstier tangent on me and now needs its plot sorted out. And you never can tell what plotbunnies will ambush me over at [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time....

Right, I'm rambling. Time for food and sleep, I think. :)
ramblin_rosie: (Default)
By George, I think I've got it! Same URLs for everything, but I've *finally* updated the MFFC main page, the PFM page, and alllll the fics I've written for the last two years. Well, except for the stuff that's on [livejournal.com profile] cazadoretx.
It's taken all week, even using FrontPage, but it's DONE. Whoof.

Query

For those of you who read my SPN meta, rare as it is: would there be any interest out there for a piece entitled "The Inconsolable Secret of Dean Winchester"? (If you get the title reference, you might be able to work out the thesis on your own....) I'm trying to decide whether to hammer out the idea soonish or save it for a potential journal article I'm poking at that has a related thesis.

Have a pome. :D I was trying to find something else for [livejournal.com profile] febobe but ran across this in a dusty corner of my hard drive and reread it just now; I still love it and thought some of y'all might enjoy it, too.
Preach it, Tollers.

Mythopoeia

Scientific proof that not only is reading fiction different from reading other kinds of writing, it's good for you! (Also proof, IMO, that "show, don't tell" actually does make for better writing.)
Thoughts, [livejournal.com profile] obeliamedusa?

In case you happen to need it: US Topo, home to the latest topographic maps from the US Geological Survey. There's an interactive version based on Google Maps (under "Coverage > Current US Topo map coverage") that lets you zoom in and switch between roadmap, satellite, hybrid, and topographic views, and you can also search for older maps and download them for free as PDFs. It's only for the US and Puerto Rico, unfortunately, but if you've got a US-based fandom, it could be a big help. :)

Fic roundup!

Sufficiently Advanced Technology, a Tok'ra Apocalypse timestamp
Two comment-fics for [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic and three from the [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time winter-themed comment-fic meme
From the same meme, The Fifth-Grade Grinch, for a time-travel prompt by [livejournal.com profile] bellatemple
The Closer We Are to Danger, an SPN/SGA one-shot AU for [livejournal.com profile] spn_in_space
And a bit of hurt!Dean silliness, Ol' Diz

And have a meme, while I'm at it:
Post the first sentence (or three) from every WIP you're currently working on, even if it's very short. Then invite people to ask questions about your WIPs. With any luck, you'll get talking about writing, and the motivation to take that WIP one step closer to completion will appear as if by magic!
Well, this isn't all of them, but they're ones I haven't completely abandoned... )

Not dead yet. Happy New Year and all that. :)
Sorry to have delayed the answers on the Name That Movie post--the only one nobody got was Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie!

I actually come bearing News, via the Blogfather: Eric Cantor has pulled the plug on SOPA. The House version is still on the table, but at least the Senate version is essentially dead.

Fic roundup coming later in the week, I think. And I've signed up for [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang again and may end up doing two fics for it if I have time. Think I know what I'm doing for this year's [livejournal.com profile] spn_gen_bigbang, too, but I'm still debating on [livejournal.com profile] lotrgficbigbang--not sure if I'll be able to get 20k worth of timestamps out of the Gwaith i Innas Lain 'verse.
And speaking of LOTR, y'all know about Mark Reads LOTR, right? I think he's finishing FOTR this week and starting TTT. It's been fun to read his reactions (even when I disagree with the position from which he's approaching the text), but it's been even more fun to reread now and again. I'd forgotten just how stirring the March of the Ents is in the book, for example.
ramblin_rosie: (Default)
I come bearing... thoughts! :D Namely, my latest piece on Goannatree.

Sunday was my birthday, and a cold and rainy day it was, too. But we're still not completely recovered from the drought--still on Stage 1 watering restrictions--so we needed the rain badly. And I got to have a good homecooked meal with my parents, along with some unexpected presents, so it was a good day. :)
