Been down with the crud the last couple of weeks. I'm *hoping* that the upcoming cold fronts and rain will knock out any allergy component ASAP, but until the whole thing clears up... expect me when you see me. :P

Still alive. Been swamped with work lately, but I do have a content-ish post percolating (on SPN--yeah, yeah, I know, but it's something I need to get off my chest) and some fic in the works. Health's still rocky, but what else is new? At least I'm starting to feel like picking up sewing projects and the like again, even though I haven't really had time.
So yeah. Still here. *waves*

... to share these words of wisdom from Ann Voskamp. Kind of ties in with this quote from Tolkien that [livejournal.com profile] dreamflower02 shared the other day.
Life is crazy... but God's got your back. I needed that reminder today. :)

Anybody got a pause button for life?!

So yeah, I'm still around, but RL is going to be crazybusy for the next month to six weeks (not that it's been calm the last six!), so I'll most likely be pretty quiet. Apologies to anyone to whom I owe emails and replies; I'll get to them when I have a spare brain cell and a minute to breathe.

P.S. Thank you to the lovely nonnie who left a comment for me at The Valentine's Day Game! :)

Birfday!

It was a glorious day weather-wise, warm (83!), sunny, pleasantly breezy, with lots and lots of butterflies on the wing. My parents and I were in one of my favorite historical towns, got to see some sights and learn a few things I hadn't known before. I got a lovely piece of art and three very cool *and* useful books as gifts. And--highly appropriate for a hobbit fan who's turning 33--the Jägerschnitzel I ordered for lunch came out COVERED, as in nearly buried, in thick-sliced mushrooms. :D
It wasn't a perfect day in all respects; last night's SPN really was *not* what I wanted for my birthday; and the weather's about to scupper our plans for the weekend (so we're going to a quieter, indoor Plan B)... but y'know what? It's been a happy day anyway. :)

I'm here, and I'm reading, but... I seem to be having a mono flare (or relapse or whatever you want to call it). :( So if I'm slow to reply to something or don't comment on a post, that's probably why, and I apologize.

Hi.
Sorry I've been so quiet lately--lots going on IRL. Also swotting away at my story for [livejournal.com profile] spn_gen_bigbang and other writing projects; guess I owe y'all a fic roundup soonish, too. But my big fandom news at the moment is that my Deaf!Dean 'verse has been nominated at [livejournal.com profile] wicked_awards (fair warning, you might need images blocked if you look around there much and are as much of a prude as I am--quite a few of the banners are slash manips >.o) and "Gwaith i Innas Lain: Quenta Ando Rauco" is nominated for the MPTT Tree and Flower Awards! No Rest for the Wicked is juried, but Tree and Flower is by popular vote, and there are loads of other good stories that have also been nominated. So if you're in the LOTR fandom, go read and vote!
Also, congrats to [livejournal.com profile] shirebound, [livejournal.com profile] dreamflower02, [livejournal.com profile] antane, [livejournal.com profile] surgicalsteel, [livejournal.com profile] lindahoyland, and all my other fellow nominees!

News?

I haven't any to speak of. Except this silliness happened (happy belated, Mo!) and I've got two new chapters of "Stole Soul Picnic" up on [livejournal.com profile] sarosefics. And the epic AU mashup might maybe actually get off the ground.
*hugs to all and sundry*

ETA: And according to LJ, this is post #1066 for this journal. No Saxons, Normans, or Vikings were harmed in the posting thereof. :D

RL has been absolutely bonkers this month. I've got other major projects either on my schedule currently or promised in the near future, plus original fic to wrangle and finish. And "Stole Soul Picnic" is, in a word, stalled.
So I'm dropping out of [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang. Plan B for "Stole Soul Picnic" is posting it as a WIP, and I'll probably start that either next week or after Easter, in the hope that comments will help me get unstuck. A couple of other fic projects may also get pushed, though I'll have to see how I'm feeling and what my schedule looks like next month. Right now I'm still planning to write the next SPN/M:I story for [livejournal.com profile] spn_gen_bigbang, though.
And that's what's new with me. *waves and passes out*

Note to self: when making chicken alfredo, add the cheese last. Otherwise the milk solids all precipitate out and won't dissolve again.
*sigh*

In other news: Anyone else interested in having a go at last week's Name That Tune? If not, I'll post the answers tomorrow.

That's what I kept thinking at the candlelight service last night. Granted, there were a bunch of children there, some of whom were super excited and ready for candles! and presents! and CHRISTMAS YAAAAAAY! And that's fine, don't get me wrong--we ought to be excited and joyous. But. We had *one* carol each at the beginning and end of the service (three verses of "Joy to the World" and one of "Silent Night"); we had *one* responsive reading; the pastor read all the Scriptures almost too fast to keep up with; and the whole thing took half an hour from start to finish.
It just felt... perfunctory.
Slow down. Stop and think--really think--about what Christmas means. Dig out some of the old carols and listen to the words. Take the time to remind yourself just what happened two thousand-ish years ago. Try to get your head around it if you can.

The One Himself has entered into Arda. And though the healing is not yet complete, He will not fail to complete it in His time.

This Flower, Whose fragrance tender with sweetness fills the air,
Dispels with glorious splendor the darkness everywhere.
True Man yet very God, from sin and death He saves us
And lightens every load.

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given,
Unto us a Son is given....

The kingdom of this world is become
The kingdom of Our Lord and of His Christ, and of His Christ!
And He shall reign forever and ever!

Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our Heavenly Lord,
Who hath made heaven and earth of naught
And with His blood mankind hath bought!
Noel, noel, noel, noel!
Born is the King of Israel!

Merry Christmas, y'all. :)

I are a tired taquito, though not from partying too hard. :D Work's just been keeping me crazy busy and/or up all hours. But many thanks for all the birthday wishes and sweet surprises! It's been a good day, all told. :) I'm not sure if I'll be able to respond individually, but I have read and smiled at everything I've gotten. Wish I had a mathom ready to post, but I don't quite--yet. What I will have, as soon as I can get them finished and betaed, are the last two stories in the Dinéchesters "The Dark Wind" arc! And they are long and plotty and *should* tie up all the loose ends. ;) I think that will be it for that 'verse, though I never say never where sequels are concerned if it's an AU I like.
Speaking of which, since I'm not posting those for a challenge, would those of you who read on LJ prefer that I post all at once or that I post a chapter a day, the way I do on FF.n?
Next year I'll be focusing more on original fic, but don't think I'm giving up on fanfic. Oh, no. I've still got stories to finish in at least four other AUs, including that Tok'ra Apocalypse sequel that stalled out on me, plus two Big Bangs that I'll be posting after the first of the year and an A-Team crossover that I started for an [livejournal.com profile] spn_bigpretzel comment-fic meme but took off on an angstier tangent on me and now needs its plot sorted out. And you never can tell what plotbunnies will ambush me over at [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time....

Right, I'm rambling. Time for food and sleep, I think. :)

What I'm about to share might sound like a downer, but it isn't meant to be, and I can't help thinking someone needs to read it. So here goes.
Cut mainly for length--from _The Hiding Place_ by Corrie Ten Boom )
In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.--I Thessalonians 5:18

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all. :)

I may or may not post more on the subject later, but for now I'll just say this: I have officially survived October.

Found out last night that the San Antonio Fire Department is hosting a new event this year, open to the public: climbing the stairs to the top of the Tower of the Americas, in memory of the firefighters who gave their lives climbing the stairs in the WTC. "We climb because they climbed" is the motto. Dunno that I have the stamina to do such a thing even if I were there for it, but I think it's a great thing to do. And of course I applaud Danneel Ackles for participating in Cycle For Heroes today.

Hard to believe it's been eleven years.
In some ways, it's over. OBL is dead, and much of the terrorists' power has been broken. But nothing can bring back those who were lost, and as long as we remain free, there will always be people who want us dead. And they only have to get lucky once.
I will not hate. But I will not forget.

Donald J. Sobol is gone. I LOVED Encyclopedia Brown--still do, really, though I haven't re-read any of the books lately. :(

Back online and feeling very thinky about something highly insightful that Mark Sheppard said at Comic-Con, which--as it isn't a spoiler--I'll quote here:

"Crowley is what happens when people aren't paying attention."

For those of you who don't know SPN, Crowley is (we're told) a demon who was once a Scottish tailor and who somehow clawed his way up the ladder to become head of the Crossroads Demons and Lilith's right hand. He helped Sam and Dean thwart the Apocalypse for the express purpose of staging a coup and becoming King of Hell, which he promptly remodeled into a Screwtape Letters-style bureaucratic nightmare. He's been at the back of much of the nefarious goings-on of the last two seasons, and now he's clearly up to even more dirty tricks, but what they are, no one knows (yet).
Crowley is what happens when people aren't paying attention.

I see a sermon and a political stump speech both in there somewhere, at minimum....

Now Ernest Borgnine is gone.
I know my heroes get old, but do they all have to go at once?

Sigh

I had a hunch Andy Griffith would be going Home this year, too.
I hate being right sometimes.

According to the counter on my profile page, this is my one thousandth entry on this LJ. I'd thought about doing something more celebratory, but... I don't mind using it to bid farewell to someone like Andy. I've seen people calling him a national treasure, and I don't think that's too strong a phrase.
