Run, do not walk, over to Christ and Popular Culture and check out this excellent article on why Star Trek: Into Darkness is aptly named. (I haven't seen any of the movies since Star Trek 6, but I still appreciate the insights.)

I skimmed it because I'm about to run, but yeah, I agree! And it's a really interesting continuum. Note - I grew up with TNG but never watched the following two series. The article analyzes DS9 but I think it leaves out Voyager. I wonder where it fits in.

Yeah, he doesn't address Voyager and Enterprise, and having never watched either, I'm not sure where Voyager would fit in. Still, as you say, it is a very interesting continuum!
