When I moved in, there was an owl that used to hoot outside my office window at a certain time every night. I stopped hearing it for a while, so I think it may have gone north for the summer (wish I could have done the same!). But recently it came back.
Then I started hearing hoots later into the night.
Right now I can distinctly hear TWO owl voices, possibly a third. Their calls are different in pattern and pitch, and sometimes they hoot over each other, so it's not the same owl talking to itself.

I wonder what they're discussing so earnestly. :D

ETA: Also, speaking of discussing earnestly, one reason I'm still awake is that I'm reading Tremendous Trifles by GKC. Hilarious and deep.

Thanks to the magic of the Internet, I've figured out that what I was hearing last night--and continued to hear waaaay late, although I think they left for a while and came back--was a pair of great horned owls. As in a male and a female.
Wonder if there'll be owlets in the neighborhood this spring! :D
