Update on the owls

Thanks to the magic of the Internet, I've figured out that what I was hearing last night--and continued to hear waaaay late, although I think they left for a while and came back--was a pair of great horned owls. As in a male and a female.
Wonder if there'll be owlets in the neighborhood this spring! :D

Oooh. :) I thought about that actually when I commented earlier. It could be tthat they are nesting.

Courting, anyway; I think the Houston Audubon article said something about nesting starting in December. :)
Annnd in other happy news, we got over 5" of rain last weekend, almost all of which soaked right in, and things are finally starting to look a wee bit GREEN! Most of the dead grass washed away from my front yard, but there are ground cover plants starting to sprout, so I'm hopeful that there'll be more greenness to come. :)

Out by the bald eagles' nest east of town, there's a big patch of tiny purple wildflowers! I haven't stopped to see just what they are, but they're there.

Maybe after the Founder's Day stuff tomorrow, we can drive out there and see. Maybe even see the eagles.

Heh heh heh... we've got a pair of Great Horned Owls in the woods next to our house. I love listening to them. I've caught glimpses of them a few times (they're quite elusive) and I don't know where their nest is. But I feel very protective of "my" owls. Hope you enjoy yours as well.

Oh, I do and I will! I'm hardly ever outside late enough to catch glimpses--there's a skunk in the area as well--but I do hope to get to see them eventually. :)
