How do these things always manage to surface while I'm working on something that has me surrounded by books?

I'll be good and go with the book that's on the top of the stack and not the one that's open in the next tab:

It's not really fair when I do it, because this is always the book sitting to the right of the keyboard, ready for me to look up any reference when I'm writing fic. Every once in a while another is on top of it, but not tonight:
