So as some of you know, I've been thinking about trying to write for television, probably on a "genre" show of some kind. And with that kind of thinking comes a pondering of what networks are worth my time as employers.
SyFy used to be the go-to network for sci-fi/fantasy programming, but their quality had declined in recent years, and the way they handled the cancellation of SGA and green-lighting of SGU made me hesitant to consider working for them. But consider it I did... until they badly mishandled SGU and announced its cancellation on Twitter before the actors--and, apparently, even the writers/executive producers--had been informed. Strike three, yer out.
Another network that I've been puzzling over is The CW. Granted, this is the network that plays up such trash as Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries, but I do like a good number of their actors and was wondering whether it might be possible for even a prude like me to fit there. Until they postponed the mid-season premieres of both Smallville and Supernatural in favor of reruns of Nikita and The Vampire Diaries and announced it the day before the eps were scheduled to air. I still can't think of a valid reason for doing that short of a national emergency (and even then the reruns should still have been SV and SPN).
At this rate, I'm going to be looking at a webseries, where network idiocy doesn't matter....
Edited to add appropriate music.

Date: 2011-01-28 05:37 am (UTC)I was at first very angry about the whole thing, as you can see by my post lol, but now, I've entered the stage of disappointment. Everyone was hype-ing tomorrow's episode...and now all will be lost as we wait 8 weeks instead of 7.

Date: 2011-01-28 06:09 am (UTC)I just realized what this incident reminds me of:
Some years ago, when I was still in undergrad, a former friend (a grad student) and his girlfriend were supposed to go with me to a concert in another town, on a Saturday in early September. A week or two before the concert, ex-friend and I had a fight, but I *thought* things had been smoothed over by then.
The Thursday before the concert, he a) told me that they couldn't come because he had a paper due that Monday and b) asked me for my ticket to the football game, since I could get it for free and he couldn't.
I didn't buy the paper excuse then, and I still don't--at first I thought it had something to do with our falling out, but later events make me suspect that he had either fought/broken up with his girlfriend or was cheating on her, and either way, he didn't want me to know. I gave him the football ticket (not very graciously, alas) and gave the concert tickets to other friends, and we had a good time without ex-friend and his girl, but that incident marked the beginning of the end of that friendship.
