Some thoughts as we go into Good Friday...

... that somewhat vaguely tie together this old post, that five-song meme that's making the rounds (answers below), and something that happened at home tonight.
Have you ever had a thorn--specifically a cactus thorn (I'm guessing pencil cholla)--stuck in the palm of your hand? It HURTS. The biological whys and wherefores escape me at the moment, but it HURTS.
Now imagine having a spike driven through your hand.
Both hands.
And having to hang from those spikes for three hours while you push yourself up on a third in an attempt to not suffocate, not to mention the thorns crammed down on your forehead and the splinters of the rough wood you're hanging from worming their way into your back, already flayed by forty lashes with a cat-o'-nine-tails.
And then add a greater weight than the Ring at Mount Doom--the sins of the entire world for all the ages.
And then your one source of hope and support must perforce turn His back on you.
Only man owed satisfaction. Only God had the power to pay that debt. Only one solution: Jesus Christ, fully God, fully Man....
We are none of us worthy. But He did it anyway, because He loves us.
Love so amazing, so divine
Demands my heart, my life, my all.
