Okay, I never answer these, but this one I can't resist:
[Error: unknown template qotd]

"There was a boy named Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it."--The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C. S. Lewis

Or:

"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit."--The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien

Both tell us *so much* in so few words. (I also love that in The Silver Chair, when re-introducing Eustace, CSL says, "His name unfortunately was Eustace Clarence Scrubb, but he wasn't a bad sort"--shows how radically he's changed!)

Honorable mention: "That amiable youth, Jimmy Thesiger, came racing down the big staircase at Chimneys two steps at a time."--The Seven Dials Mystery by Agatha Christie
I dunno, it just struck me as funny last time I re-read it. :D
