Both tell us *so much* in so few words. (I also love that in The Silver Chair, when re-introducing Eustace, CSL says, "His name unfortunately was Eustace Clarence Scrubb, but he wasn't a bad sort"--shows how radically he's changed!)
Honorable mention: "That amiable youth, Jimmy Thesiger, came racing down the big staircase at Chimneys two steps at a time."--The Seven Dials Mystery by Agatha Christie
