So there we all were, minding our own business--me trying to grade essays through the dregs of a migraine, Mum working on laundry, Chappy asleep in his recliner--when suddenly there was a sliding noise and a clatter of glass. No shattering, which was good, but what in the world had fallen and why? We all converged on the dining room...
... to find that the shade of the light fixture that's been over the dining table since we moved in twenty-odd years ago had collapsed. The small panes at the top were still in place, but the brass frame was dangling down in a twisted mess, and the large side panes had fallen onto the table and floor.
!!!
No clue what caused it, although a cricket started chirping not long after (I found it on a nearby box and killed it because I so did not need that noise with what's left of this headache), so it landing on the shade or launching off of it might have been the proverbial last straw. Or the culprit might just have been gravity combined with age. STILL!
We collected the fallen panes, btw, which are nicely etched and no worse than dusty, and Mum is planning to give them to a friend who does glass art.
