Audiobook rec
Feb. 15th, 2019 01:55 amThe college where I teach recently subscribed to rbDigital, and while the selection of Agatha Christie audiobooks is limited (at least through that library), I've really enjoyed the two HarperAudio books read by Dan Stevens that are available, namely And Then There Were None and Murder on the Orient Express. He has a good range of voices and expressiveness, and so far he's the first Poirot reader I've encountered who doesn't just give Poirot a generic French accent. Instead, he does a reasonably good imitation of David Suchet--not perfect, but close enough that I can picture Suchet's delivery even though I haven't watched Suchet's version of Orient Express yet. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Suchet actually coached Stevens; IMDb shows they've been in a couple of things together.
The part that made me laugh out loud, though, was when I realized that he was doing another imitation for Mrs. Hubbard: Carol Channing. XD
Oh, and while I'm thinking about it: I've listened to five of the seven HarperAudio recordings of the Chronicles of Narnia (PC, VDT, SC, HHB, and LB) and enjoyed them all. Still on the waiting list for the other two.
