... because I feel like I need to explain. Comments are off because I don't have the energy to discuss it with anyone and because I've had it with being judged by all sides.

I'm not sorry Hillary Clinton lost.
I'm not happy Donald Trump won.

Our choices were between pitch black and gunmetal grey. I couldn't vote for either of them in good conscience. I am relieved that one set of disasters has been averted... but that doesn't mean there won't be another set waiting for us now. We've dodged the traitor; we're still stuck with the cad.

But one thing is true no matter who wins any given election: The answers to our country's problems aren't going to be found in Washington because their root, ultimately, lies in the individual human heart.

We need to pray, and pray hard. There are so many people on both sides who are blinded by hate and so many people deeply invested in fueling that hate. Things aren't going to get better quickly or easily.

But at the same time, we can't despair. Even if we disagree, we can still have hope and work to make things better, even if only on a local, personal level. And we can still be kind and compassionate to one another.

My youngest cousin's boyfriend just proposed, and she said yes.

I can't stop smiling. :D
