Jan. 14th, 2010 11:18 amRemember to check out any group that's asking you for donations, and when in doubt, go with an organization that has a clear record of actually using donations to do what they say they'll do. An organization with an established presence in Haiti would probably be best in terms of putting your donation to use quickly. Convoy of Hope (my charity of choice) already had a warehouse outside Port-au-Prince, for example, so they were able to help right away, and I expect the same is true of bigger-name aid organizations like the Salvation Army.
There are fandom avenues to explore as well.
help_haiti has become something of a clearinghouse for fan auctions, and while I haven't done much poking around to see what specific fandom groups are doing, I do know that Misha Collins (Supernatural's Castiel) has set up a "Misha's Minions" donation page with UNICEF (and raised over $10k in under 24 hours!).
And even if you have nothing else to give, you can pray.
