If you're looking for news about the bombing at the Golden Mosque from sources other than the mainstream media, your best bet is probably Iraq the Model. Omar and Mohammed are Iraqis living in Baghdad, so they've got the latest on-the-spot news.
One thing that caught my eye in Omar's latest update was this: "President Talabani promises to make rebuilding the shrine his personal responsibility and to donate the required money from his own." A Kurd offering to rebuild a Shia mosque with his own funds. WOW.


In happier news closer to home, one of my regulars from last year came in the other day just to use the computer, and we talked for a minute. He's hearing impaired and doesn't seem very academically inclined, so I didn't expect to see him after he finished his one required English class last year. But he told me about two pieces of Stephen King-inspired long fiction he's working on (a novella and a novel), and they sound promising! Horror's not my genre, so I'll probably refer him to someone else if he brings them in, but I'm glad he's still writing. :)
