Fiat lux!

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
And God said, "Let there be light." And there was light. God saw the light, that it was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. The light He called day, and the darkness He called night. And the evening and the morning was the first day.
And so it went, until He had created everything according to His good pleasure. And on the seventh day He rested.
But then Man disobeyed God's one simple command, and the lights went out.
So He called Abraham and his descendents. He gave the children of Israel the Law through Moses, and there was a faint glimmer of hope. And He promised a Redeemer through the prophets. But the people did not listen, and time and again they disobeyed Him. And finally He ceased to speak to them.
But he did not withdraw His hand. Just ask the Maccabees.
And then one silent night, the sky was rent as a chorus of angels came down to earth to announce the Savior's birth.
And there was light once more, for in Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not understood it or conquered it.
