From Fondy:

Go http://www.musicoutfitters.com/ and put your birth year into the search thingy. The first link is likely the top 100 songs of that year. Cut and paste that list here. Bold the ones you actually like. Understand that the word "like" in this case means, in the very least, "wouldn't immediately change the radio station from". Pick a favorite. Underline that favorite.
[Personal addition: Italicize songs you don't know but that are by artists you like.]

1. Call Me, Blondie
2. Another Brick In The Wall, Pink Floyd
3. Magic, Olivia Newton-John
4. Rock With You, Michael Jackson
5. Do That To Me One More Time, Captain and Tennille
6. Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Queen
7. Coming Up, Paul McCartney
8. Funkytown, Lipps, Inc.
9. It's Still Rock And Roll To Me, Billy Joel
10. The Rose, Bette Midler

Wow. Most of the ones I like are covers of '60s material, and most of the ones that aren't are soul. (I watched a Soul '70s infomercial last night and realized that most of the songs I like from the '70s, especially ones from after '76, are soul.) I wonder what that says about me.
Of course, my absolute favorite song from 1980 topped out in '81--"Celebration" by Kool and the Gang [we were both wrong, Bean]. When the Cards won the World Series last, "Celebration" was ALL OVER St. Louis for quite some time. But Mum pointed out a favorite title that I'd missed ("Longer" by Dan Fogelberg), so I've marked that as my favorite on this list.
I think it's also interesting how many of the artists on this list got their start in the '60s or early '70s. Most of those are still performing. Most of the ones who didn't aren't. I wonder whether *that* means anything of significance.

And I wonder what my analysis of memes says about me. ;)

EDIT: Just for the sake of contrast, here's the list from twenty years before I was born:
Top 100 Songs of 1960 )
Wow. That time I couldn't pick a favorite because there were *too many* good songs!

On the way home from church this afternoon, we passed a place where some vendor was selling posters to new students. The people had set up a stand-up Legolas in front of a signpost and put a lei and a grass skirt on it. :D

And a gem from today's sermon, talking about preparing for a miracle:
"[People] have it all picked out, what God is going to do. There's a Greek word for that; it's called silly, silly, silly.... If you could put God in a teeny little box and He fit, He wouldn't be God anymore."
