Heh. Wow.

Did NOT intend to stay up all night. o.O
But I got to see Hellfighters (yay!), and I got a fair amount done on straightening... quite a bit of filing, putting things back on bookshelves, etc. And a load of dishes.
Still have a lot to get done in the next three days, but it's a dent.
Have a headache now, though, so I'd better get some sleep.

I thought it was about time that I explain a bit about the charities to which I've linked on this journal.

America Supports You: a site for supporting the troops; among the things you can do there is to write a note to our guys and gals in the Sandbox
Spirit of America: a military outreach charity; among their projects are giving toys and school supplies to Iraqi children and supporting pro-democracy bloggers in places like Lebanon and Iran
A milblogger related one story a while back that solidified my support for SoA: A soldier was handing out toys from SoA in Iraq one day and noticed one little girl who especially loved the teddy bear he handed her. A few days later, this same soldier was part of an armored patrol that suddenly discovered this little girl sitting in the middle of the street holding her new teddy bear and refusing to move. The first few vehicles in the patrol went around her, but the soldier who recognized her stopped and got out to talk to her. Before he could say anything, she moved aside and showed him why she wouldn't move: she had been sitting on an anti-tank mine.
Convoy of Hope: a faith-based, transdenominational disaster relief organization; they've been on the scene ASAP during the Florida hurricanes and the tsunami, and among their current projects is taking food to Niger because of the drought.
Project Valour-IT: a grass-roots movement to provide voice-activated laptops for injured soldiers recovering from hand or arm wounds at major military medical centers
This is an example of the blogosphere at its best. Cpt. Chuck Ziegenfuss, a milblogger, is recovering from wounds he sustained in an IED attack in Iraq, and typing was proving hard for him once he was finally able to use a laptop. So he made some inquiries about voice-recognition software, and offers came out of the woodwork. Now Chuck is able to blog to his heart's content. But several people pondered his request and realized that he's not the only wounded hero who needs that kind of assistance. So Holly Aho from Soldiers' Angels did some brainstorming and coordinating and came up with Project Valour-IT.

If I had a million dollars, I'd give a fair chunk of it to groups like these. But since I don't have much money to give at all, I figured I'd give them a little free publicity.

I just got my electric bill.
I guess I get my initial deposit back, because there's a huge credit--enough to cover this month's bill plus probably a quarter of next month's.
Jehovah Jireh strikes again! I'm so grateful I could cry!
(Dunno why Franny Fox thinks "shocked" is a mood for smiling, but in this case it fits.)
