... for a fic idea:

Place: Germany
Time: October 1944
Victim: a particularly odious Gestapo colonel, formerly of Auschwitz--heavy smoker, moderate drinker
What: a flu- or mono-like virus, followed by a reactive airway, followed by an upper respiratory infection that settles into pneumonia, which kills him. (Virus unspecified because this is my Hogan's Heroes/Stargate Atlantis crossover and it's a Pegasus virus.)

Questions:
1. Plausible chain of events?
2. How would he most likely die (respiratory failure, aneurism from coughing fit, pulmonary embolism from deep vein thrombosis)?
3. Would it be plausible for him to die on the first night of Hanukkah?
I'm trying to find some appropriate poetic justice, and this idea seemed more workable than trying to send him to the mission target to get blown up. :P

No, I'm not writing it yet, just brainstorming. I'm still trying to get the diss done.

Influenza followed by pneumococcal pneumonia would do it for you. He'd start off with the high fever/body aches/non-productive cough which would lead to productive cough and spiking fever and perhaps even septic shock (low BP, rapid heart rate) and delerium.

He'd die of shock.

Yes, Hannukkah would work.

I used that combination to kill someone in fic once... ;)

Plotting sickness is fun. :D I do it constantly. I get lot of real life patients' sicknesses and injuries to take from. Sadly it never end up as fic though. Plotting is still nice though.
